Anlässlich des Frühlings und der für diese Jahreszeit so typischen Blumenpracht ist die Stadt Funchal ein weiteres Mal Veranstaltungsort eines prächtigen Schauspiels, das sowohl Auge als auch Nase erfreut. Das Blumenfest, das dieses Jahr vom 15. bis zum 18. April stattfindet, ist dem Thema „Erde“ gewidmet und möchte auf diese Weise einen Beitrag zu den Feiern anlässlich des Internationalen Jahres der Biodiversität leisten.Die Feierlichkeiten beginnen am Donnerstag, den 15. April, mit der Eröffnung des sogenannten Mercado das Flores, dem „Blumenmarkt“, im zentralen Bereich der Avenida Arriaga; einer Blumenschau auf dem Largo da Restauração und dem Anlegen filigraner Blumenteppiche entlang der wichtigsten Straßen Funchals.
Am Samstagmorgen findet ein Umzug statt, an dem Tausende Kinder teilnehmen; jedes mit einer Blume, die es auf dem Praçã do Município, an der sogenannten „Muro da Esperança“, der „Mauer der Hoffnung“, ablegt. Nachdem die Mauer vollendet wurde, steigen Tauben auf und es folgt eine Kindervorstellung.
Am Sonntag findet ein weiterer Höhepunkt statt, der große Blumenumzug, an dem sich Hunderte Maskenträger und allegorische Blumenwagen beteiligen. Zum Klang ausgelassener Musik zieht der prächtige Zug mit unterschiedlichen Arrangements aus typischen Blumen der Insel durch die Stadt, die die Luft mit einem leichten, flüchtigen Parfum erfüllen.
Das Blumenfest, das zu den farbenprächtigsten Veranstaltungen der Insel zählt, stellt nicht nur eine Hommage an die Blumen der Madeira-Inseln dar, sondern verleiht auch einer ursprünglichen Tradition Madeiras Kontinuität. Während mehrerer Tage verwandelt dieses Fest die Stadt Funchal in eine Bühne, auf der verschiedenste künstlerische und kulturelle Veranstaltungen stattfinden.
Dieses ikonische touristischen Festival feiren durch deine Einheimischen völken mit einem inniges Gefühl, angesehen als eine entscheidende Wichtigkeit für die Wiedergeburt Archipelagos seit dem Sturm der 20. Februar.

Celebrating spring and the wealth of flora it brings us every year, the city of Funchal is once again the stage for this sumptuous spectacle that will please both the eyes and nose. The theme for this year's Flower Festival, set to take place between 15 and 18 April, is "Earth", tying in with the celebrations for the International Year of Biodiversity.The festivities begin on Thursday 15 April with the opening of the Flower Market in the Central Square of Avenida Arriaga, the Flower Exhibition at Largo da Restauração and the construction of delicate floral carpets along the main streets of Funchal.
On Saturday morning, thousands of youngsters will take part in the Children's Parade, each carrying a flower to place in a mural known as the "Wall of Hope", located in Praça do Município. Doves will be released to mark the end of the wall's construction and there will also be a show for the children.
Sunday brings another dazzling event: the Grand Flower Parade. Hundreds of flower-themed floats and characters will make their way through the city in lavish style to the sound of music in keeping with the Festival, displaying arrangements of many different species of flower typical to the island and leaving soft and ephemeral perfumes in their wake.
The Flower Festival, one of the Islands' most colourful celebrations, is more than just a tribute to the flowers of the Madeira Islands. It provides the opportunity to keep genuine Madeiran traditions alive and transforms the city of Funchal, for a few days, into a magnificent stage for all kinds of artistic and cultural expression.
This iconic tourist festival will be celebrated by its locals with a special feeling as this is considered to be a decisive turning point for the Archipelagos rebirth since the storm of February 20th.
